Look What I Saw During Lunch Break!

What?! Snap!

Birthday Bash

Birthdays are just birthdays, but this year seems better than the usual.

It’s safe to say I have the best coworkers. They somehow knew how much I love playing Street Fighter and superimposed my face on Sean from Third-Strike. Luckily they didn’t put my face on my favorite character (Makoto is a girl).

Throughout the weekend for my actual birthday and in celebration of my other friends’ birthdays (there are five of us born in September) my friends and I rented a beach house down in Wai’anae. No, it’s not as ghetto as you think. It was quite peaceful—well, as peaceful as we could get it with Copen.

There was a lot of drinking.

A lot of food.

Too much of Copen.

On the day of my birthday I went into town to participate in 102.7 Da Bomb’s 2nd Annual Street Fighter II Tournament. For your information, I lost. First match, first loss in the tournament. Yes… lame. Good fun, though.

After that, it was dinner with the family at Buca di Beppo and back to the beach house.

I relaxed so much during the weekend that time felt like it was moving more slower than the usual quick weekends. I was on Corona time minus the Corona. Good times.

The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows (String Quartet Tribute to Brand New)

YES!

New Clothes

Since I started working at my current office job, I’ve been really itching for a new look. Something more mature, but not so formal and serious. Something casual, but not too casual. Something that says, “I’m a young man; hear me roar!” Maybe not like that. You get what I mean.

As I get older, I also want to look the part. I’ve been trying to stray away from the clothes I wore through high school and college; the baggy pants and the big t-shirts. Back in high school and college I really didn’t give a flying fuck what I wore. Clothes were just clothes. I wasn’t trying to impress anyone. Not to mention my institution was a major sausage fest anyways.

When I got hired as a graphic designer at a health insurance office. I noticed how out of place my clothes were. It wasn’t just in my office, but everywhere in the area. Everyone looked sharp and professional. Compared to them, I looked dull and unpolished.

Not saying I want to be a robot and wear a suit and tie. I just want to capture that sense of maturity, sophistication, and professionalism that people display when they wear their clothes.

Thus started my mission for a new look. First stop, Old Navy.

I love shopping at Old Navy. Yeah, yeah. It’s not exactly GQ style, but the clothes affordable and they look nice. Definitely the direction I want to take. I picked up two pairs of Men’s Herringbone-Stripe Khakis (one black and one brown), a plain white button-up, and a blue button-up. Nothing too fancy.

I also needed some new shoes to go with the black pants that I just acquired. My brown Vans won’t cut it anymore. I also read that black pants and brown shoes don’t mix.

Off to Macy’s I go.

I ended up picking up a pair of Rockport Loafers. No, I didn’t get the orange ones. My Filipino blood isn’t that strong enough to get me to buy those. I went with a black pair (not pictured in the link). These shoes were pretty pricey for my taste, but I can’t complain about the price tage when the shoes comfortable and easy to maintain. Did I forget to mention? These shoes are machine washable. Party.

All in all, I’m pretty satisfied with the clothes I bought. This may not be the exact look that I’m going for, but it’s certainly step up from the clothes I used to wear.
